PORTLAND, ME – March 9, 2022 – The Maine Mariners made their first post-college season signing on Tuesday, bringing in defenseman Gabriel Chicoine from Bowling Green State University. Chicoine played three seasons in the NCAA Division III ranks before joining Bowling Green for his senior year.
A native of St-Dominique, QC, Chicoine played in the Quebec Junior Hockey League from 2014-18, primarily with the Granby Inouk. In his final two seasons of junior, he averaged over a point-per-game, capping off his career with 58 points in 49 games in the 2017-18 season. That season, he was named to the QJHL Second All-Star Team.
Chicoine began his collegiate career at Norwich University, one of the top programs in NCAA Division III hockey. As a freshman, he put up 22 points (6 goals, 16 assists) in 31 games and was named to the New England Hockey Conference All-Rookie and All-Tournament Teams. Chicoine increased his production as a sophomore, posting a team-leading 31 points (5 goals, 28 assists) in 28 games, earning him a First Team All-American spot.
For the 2021-22 season, Chicoine joined Bowling Green and the Division I ranks. In 37 games, he scored one goal while chipping in 18 assists. The Falcons season just ended this past weekend, falling in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association Quarterfinals to Bemidji State, two games to one.
