MARINERS ANNOUNCE SEVERAL ROSTER MOVES

PORTLAND, ME – December 9, 2021 – The Maine Mariners announced several roster moves on Thursday, as three players were moved up to the AHL’s Providence Bruins and two were signed to ECHL contracts.

Forwards Justin Brazeau and Keltie Jeri-Leon are heading to Providence, along with goaltender Jeremy Brodeur. Brazeau and Brodeur are on AHL contracts, while Jeri-Leon is on loan, but spent time in Providence training camp earlier this fall. Brazeau leads the Mariners in points (20) and goals (10), scoring twice in yesterday’s overtime loss at Worcester. Jeri-Leon has eight points in 18 games, with all three of his goals coming over the last five. Brodeur has been the Mariners #1 goaltender this season, appearing in 13 games, with a 5-4-1-1 record, a 3.09 GAA and a .909 SV%.

The Mariners have signed forward Westin Michaud and defenseman Jake Cass to ECHL contracts.

Michaud, 26-years-old, was most recently on a PTO (professional tryout) with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms and has seen ECHL action this season with the Kansas City Mavericks. A native of Cloquet, MN, Michaud turned pro last season, appearing in 18 games for the AHL’s Manitoba Moose. He signed with the Stockton Heat this summer and skated in nine games for Kansas City, their ECHL affiliate. Michaud has four goals and six assists so far this season. He played collegiately for Colorado College and the University of North Dakota.

Defenseman Jake Cass has been playing for the Birmingham Bulls of the Southern Professional Hockey League this season, where he has skated in seven games, with a goal and three assists. A 25-year-old blueliner from Stillwater, MN, Cass also has one ECHL game under his belt this season with the Idaho Steelheads. Cass played three seasons of NCAA DIII hockey for Hamline University from 2017-20 and played junior hockey in the top two U.S. circuits: the United States Hockey League and the North American Hockey League.

In an additional move, defenseman Michael Kim, who was returned on loan from the Springfield Thunderbirds to play in Wednesday’s game, was loaned back to Springfield.
