PORTLAND, ME – January 11, 2025 – The Maine Mariners fell to the Norfolk Admirals by a 10-3 final score on Saturday night at the Cross Insurance Arena. Lynden McCallum scored twice in the losing effort, and has three goals in four games as a Mariner.
The Mariners came out forechecking hard and were rewarded with the opening goal at 9:37. Carter Johnson spotted Lynden McCallum out in the slot and fed him from below the goal line for McCallum's second goal in four games with Maine. The lead lasted only 27 seconds, however, as Norfolk's Denis Smirov found a rebound in front of Nolan Maier to tie things up quickly. Norfolk moved into the lead at 17:35 of the first when Ben Zloty snuck a shot between Maier's pads from the left faceoff circle.
Early in the 2nd, the Mariners tied things up during 4-on-4 hockey when Justin Bean trailed Jimmy Lambert’s rush into the zone and squeezed one through Domenic DiVicentiis at 1:29. Norfolk regained the lead on a Ryan Chyzowski breakaway goal at 6:33. Just 15 seconds later, Filip Fornaa Svensson scored right off a faceoff to put Norfolk up by two. McCallum netted his second of the game, a power play tally at 8:44 to bring Maine back within a goal at 4-3.
The Mariners got into penalty trouble late in the second, leading to four unanswered Admirals goals. Carson Golder cashed in at 9:03, followed by Sean Montgomery with a 4-on-4 marker at 15:00. Chyzowski got his second of the game 5-on-3 at 18:32, and Justin Young netted one with six seconds left in the period. Norfolk led 8-3 after two.
The Admirals added two more goals in the third to break double digits. Fornaa Svensson got his second of the game on a 2-on-1 at 6:58 and Stepan Timofeyev notched the 10th goal at 18:31 when he fed one in off a Mariners skate.
