PORTLAND, ME – June 20, 2023 – The ECHL’s deadline for completing future considerations trades was Tuesday, and the Mariners made one move to complete a deal from the 2022-23 season, sending the rights to forward Sean Gulka to the Wheeling Nailers.
The completed trade was originally executed on March 14th, when the Mariners and Nailers swapped forwards, with Carter Johnson heading to Maine and Keltie Jeri-Leon being moved to Wheeling. The Mariners also included a future consideration in the deal, which becomes the rights to Gulka.
Gulka, a 23-year-old forward from Langley, British Columbia, was acquired by the Mariners in January from the South Carolina Stingrays, but never appeared in a Maine uniform. He played seven ECHL games with the Stingrays last season, but spent the bulk of 2022-23 with the Southern Professional Hockey League’s Pensacola Ice Flyers.
Next up on the list of the ECHL’s critical offseason dates is Thursday’s season ending roster deadline. The season ending roster is the next steps in the players rights protection process and can include up to 20 players. Players can begin re-signing on Friday, June 23rd. Players that do not sign can be issued a qualifying offer by July 7th.
