PORTLAND, ME – July 19, 2023 – A new face was added to the Mariners roster on Wednesday, as they announced the signing of forward Brooklyn Kalmikov. Coming over from the Wheeling Nailers, Kalmikov was one of the top-scoring rookies in the ECHL last season.
In his rookie campaign with the Nailers, Kalmikov registered 52 points (23 goals, 29 assists) in 66 games. He finished second on the Nailers in overall point scoring, tied for first in assists, and ranked 12th among all ECHL rookie scorers. Kalmikov was on an American Hockey League deal with Wheeling’s affiliate – the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. He saw three additional games with them in 2022-23.
Kalmikov played in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for five seasons from 2017-2022, spending time with Cape Breton, Victoriaville, and Moncton. He finished with a bang, putting up 72 points (34 goals, 38 assists) in 62 games during his final season with Moncton. He also won a QMJHL Championship with Victoriaville in 2021.

He was a 1996 third round pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs, but never made it to the NHL.
“I’m very excited to join the Mariners,” said Kalmikov.”I’ve heard great things about Maine and can’t wait to meet the fans and get the season started.”
Kalmikov joins returning forwards Cam Askew and Austin Albrecht on the 2023-24 roster, along with defenseman Connor Doherty.
